I would like to suggest that these social norms that affect human behavior can be modified through our cultural messaging such as books and film. That is what I am trying to do with my climate fiction. I say: If we want things to change, we have to imagine it. I have started a newsletter about promoting climate fiction with hope and heart (not dystopian gloom) and also published a climate fiction mystery that models political activism and challenges consumptive lifestyles. It also suggests strategies for speaking out to others about the urgency of climate change and for overcoming the lack of connection that fuels this systemic division and quest for unlimited growth.
